Learning the game

Rachel ships with an interactive tutorial that deals you real hands and walks you through every special card. Tap Tutorial on the main menu to play through it.

For a quick reference while you play, Rules on the main menu lists every card effect on one screen.

Common questions

The other device can't find my game

Local multiplayer discovers nearby players over your local network, so both devices need to be on the same Wi-Fi network, and Rachel needs permission to use it.

If you declined the local network prompt when you first hosted or joined a game, allow Rachel to use the local network in your device's privacy settings. On iPhone and iPad, look under Settings → Apps → Rachel → Local Network.

Why can't I play a card that looks legal?

Two rules catch people out. If someone has played an attack card against you and you hold a card that can counter it, you must play that counter. And once you draw, your turn ends immediately — you can't draw and then play.

When a card can't be played, the app explains why rather than just refusing the tap.

How do I invite a friend who isn't nearby?

Game Center brings your friends to the table over the internet. On the main menu, choose Host Game → Invite a Friend. Pick your table size, choose friends from the list below the seats and send the invitation. Wait for your friends to join their seats before starting the game.

To receive an invitation, choose Join Game → Join a Friend, sign in if asked and leave Rachel ready to join. Accept the Game Center invitation when it arrives. This also enables invitation reception on the Mac without a sign-in prompt at launch.

Why isn't my friend in the list?

You need to be Game Center friends, and both players need to let Rachel access their Game Center friends list. Add each other in Apple's Games app, then allow friend-list access when Rachel asks. If you previously declined, check your Game Center settings.

If everyone available is already seated, the lobby says No other Game Center friends. They haven't disappeared — they're already at your table.

I can't send or receive an invitation

Both players need an internet connection and must be signed in to Game Center. Check that Screen Time allows multiplayer games. On Mac, open Join a Friend before your friend sends the invitation. If joining fails, return to the menu and ask the host for a fresh invitation.

Solo and nearby play don't need Game Center. You can keep playing those if you prefer to stay signed out.

What happens if someone disconnects?

For a Game Center guest, the host keeps their seat and hand while the game remains open. Reopen Rachel and choose Join Game → Join a Friend to be ready to return. The host may need to invite you again. When you rejoin, you return to your original seat and hand.

If the host leaves, guests see Host Disconnected and can return to the menu. The game doesn't transfer to another host. Keep the host's game open while a guest reconnects.

Which Macs can play?

Rachel runs on Apple silicon Macs as well as iPhone and iPad. Friends on any of these devices can play together. The whole game is included in one purchase, with no subscription or in-app purchases.

My game vanished when I closed the app

It shouldn't have. Solo games save automatically, and Continue Game on the main menu picks up where you left off. If a game disappeared, please email us — that's a bug worth chasing.

How do I reset my statistics?

Settings has a game data section where you can clear your saved statistics and achievements. This can't be undone.

Accessibility

Rachel supports VoiceOver throughout, including spoken announcements when opponents play, when turns change, and when the game ends. It also honours Dynamic Type, so the interface scales with your preferred text size.

If something is hard to use with assistive technology, please tell us. Accessibility reports get priority.
